Juan Quiñones Rosa (1904-1988)

Taking advantage of Ancestry's Christmas gift, I found invaluable information in the 1935-36 Puerto Rico Social and Population Schedule about my Quiñones Ancestors. In January 1936, my maternal grandfather Juan Quiñones Rosa (with his wife Flora, my grandmother, and his baby Son Juan Q.V.; my Uncle Johnny), was living with his brother Jorge Quinones Rosa (married to Rafael Benitez) in Barrio Duque, Naguabo, where my mother Jenny was born one year later in 1937.
1936 United States Social and Population Census

This is all invaluable information for me because the household includes, not only my grandparents with an uncle and his family, but also my great grandmother Sotera Rosa (of the De La Rosa lineage), of 45 years, and already widowed, meaning that I can research the death of Bisabuelo Antonio (her husband) and possibly find his long elusive father, that would finally tie me up with the ancestral Quinones Family of old. This is Huuuge for me!! (one slight mistake to note. In 1935, Grandmother Flora was not 26, she was 16!).

Nace 26 Junio 1904 (Bautismos Fajardo, Libro 30, Fo 519, Ptda #1074).

Surname: Quinion
This unusual name has probable Huguenot associations in that it was originally found as Quinones or Quiniou from the Spanish Province of Leon and the French of Brittany and also from the State of Andulusia, where it is recorded Heraldically in Rietstap's Armorial General for the Continent. The name was originally from Spain and is either locational from the village of Quinones or occupational for one who farmed shared lands. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Quinones de Leon. which was dated C. 1580 San Carlos, Spain. during the reign of King Philip 11 of Spain 1528 - 1598.
